Pamela Ruiz, Director

Aliases: Pamelo ("the sweetest fruit in Thailand"), PR, Ruiz

Duties: Director of IAESTE United States, official liaison to IAESTE International, and world peace.

Began in IAESTE: September 2003

Favorite IAESTE moment: When a group of Tunisian students asked "are all Americans like you?"

Hometown: East Nantmeal Township, PA - outside of Pottstown, outside of Philly

Astrological sign: Libra

Study/work abroad experience: lived and studied in Florence, Italy my sophomore year in college

Favorite airport: any that takes me out of the U.S.

Pie or cake? cake - as chocolate as possible

Elvis or Beatles? There's no question - the Beatles (I've been to every Paul McCartney world tour since the 8th grade)

Winter or summer? Summer

Favorite Broadway musical: This might also qualify as an unhealthy obsession - Grease. But I also love Anything Goes - (might explain why my son's name is Gabriel.)

Best name for a cat: My father got to name two kittens in the history of our family. One was named Mouse, the other was named Killer.

Worst car owned: There's been so many! I suppose it would have to be Vinnie, my 1977 Plymouth Volare (red with black vinyl seats - SWEET!) that caught fire in a parking lot.

Lauren Alexander, Program Manager

Duties: I Primarily break broncos, brand livestock and oversee cattle drives. In reality, I manage the IAESTE short-term international programs.

Began in IAESTE: August 2002

Favorite IAESTE moment: 2003 Post-Conference Tour, otherwise known as 29 IAESTE science and engineering students invading my home for nearly 3 days.

Hometown: Austin, TX

Astrological sign: Aries

Study/work abroad experience: Madrid, Barcelona
Favorite airport: Austin Bergstrom International Airport

Pie or cake? Definitely PIE

Elvis or Beatles? Can I pick Willie Nelson instead?

Winter or summer? Summer. I may never truly understand freezing rain.

Unhealthy obsession: Texas Barbecue, esp. the 3 meat plate

Worst job held: I worked at the library reserves desk at Rice.  You do not want to encounter a stressed out Rice kid during exams when they can't get their reserved articles.

Worst car owned: 1988 GMC suburban - but talk about character!

Lindy Black, Outbound Program Manager

Duties: I oversee exchange programs for U.S. students training abroad through IAESTE.

Began in IAESTE: November 2006

Hometown: St. Clair Shores, MI (outside of Detroit)

Astrological sign: Aquarius

Study/Work abroad experience: I participated in a 3 month AIESEC internship in Bangalore, India.

Favorite airport: McNamara Terminal in Detroit because it has the fun fountain and a National Coney Island, though Port Columbus International in Ohio is a close second because it's so easy to get in , out and around.

Courtney Cohn, Outbound Program Specialist  & Midwest and Pacific Regional Coordinator

Aliases: La Jabatita (that means "little tough piece of pork" in Spanish... think climbing mountains in flip flops)

Duties: primary contact for students in the Midwest and Pacific regions as well as the Outbound Program Specialist

Began in IAESTE: August 2006

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Astrological sign: Aquarius

Study/work abroad experience: Studying the Mediterranean in Madrid, Spain 2001 and development work with the Peace Corps in Loja, Ecuador 2003-2005

Favorite airport: any airport with Duty Free. I am always looking to expand my perfume collection.

Pie or cake? Cheesecake. My mom's cheesecake. She also makes great crème de menthe brownies.

Elvis or Beatles? That's a tough call. I just can't decide.
Winter or summer? Summer. I don't do snow sports.

Unhealthy obsession: Online web boggle. (weboggle.shackworks.com)

Worst job held: Physical Therapy Technician. I had to use squishy jelly and tape little pads onto unfavorable body parts.

Favorite flavor of soup: Creamy Butternut Squash (made with soy, not milk). Available at Wegmans.

Study/Work abroad experience: I spent one year volunteering abroad in Brussels, Belgium,  a summer volunteering abroad in Niamey, Niger, and I studied abroad in Paris, France.

Hometown:  Chaguanas, Trinidad, West Indies

Study/work abroad experience:  Since I'm from Trinidad, all my U.S. experiences have been study/work abroad!  Unless I can count Trinidad as study/work abroad now that I live here in Maryland?  Hmmm...

Favorite airport: Piarco International, because it means I'll be seeing my family really soon

Best name for a cat: I'm a dog person actually and my mother named our last dog Scar - after the villain from The Lion King.  This dog acted as if he really was a huge, scary lion even though he was a pomeranian-pekingnese mix!

Worst job held: Lotto machine operator in a supermarket
